‘Unusual’ is the word that best describes Bel’s journey to becoming a lawyer. For starters, she never aspired to be one. However, personal circumstances compelled her to study the law, with a view to protecting her family’s best interests.
Bel obtained her Bachelor of Laws at the Queensland University of Technology and completed a Post Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice at the College of Law. She undertook her practical legal training at Fisher Dore Lawyers, where she achieved successful court and tribunal outcomes in relation to criminal and migration matters. In 2020, she was admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of Queensland.
As a solicitor, Bel works closely with our Principal Solicitor, an Accredited Immigration Law Specialist, on a wide variety of immigration matters to further hone her legal capabilities.
The aspirations of would-be migrants strongly resonate with Bel, having been a migrant herself. “Working in immigration law is inspiring because it gives me the opportunity to help our clients fulfil their dream of calling Australia home. It also allows me to advocate for our clients who are experiencing difficulties or challenges remaining in Australia. To be able to make a positive difference in the lives of others is not just a privilege — I also consider it a blessing.”
Prior to joining the Timpson Immigration team, Bel extensively worked for private enterprise, publicly listed companies and statutory authorities in the tourism, education, transport and mining sectors in administrative and advisory roles.
Outside of work, Bel likes to keep fit because her health is her number 1 wealth. She is a ‘fruit bat’ as she loves all kinds of fruits. She also enjoys going for hikes and bushwalks. On the very rare occasions, she plays the piano for hours on end which she finds soul uplifting.
Bel is also a member of the Queensland Law Society.
